This new version now supports the configuration, distribution and management of a new insurance product: mobile phone insurance. Managing the catalogue of mobile phones, creating a proposal and underwriting a telephony insurance contract, recording the first notice of loss and managing claims are now standard functions provided by Prima Insure™ V7.2.

In addition to the telephony insurance support, this new version also provides about 200 enhancements.

For the front-office distribution side, the management of distribution networks is fully modernized: new intuitive graphical interface to configure distribution networks and their hierarchy, ability to sell insurance products on behalf of a distributor, capacity to fine-tune the relationships between distributors and underwriters.

For the back-office side, Prima Insure™ V7.2 offers further expansion of the search function, support for life insurance packages in savings products, upgrades and enrichments of the claims management process, documentation management improvements, etc.

The financing is exclusively provided by existing shareholders, confirming their support to Prima Solutions’ strategy to be the leader in insurance software for brokers, insurance, mutual insurance and reinsurance companies.

Prima Solutions plans to use the funds to expand its market position through a combination of external acquisitions and internal growth by leveraging its existing customers and products.

Now since insurance companies have been handling claims all the time, day in, day out, the vast majority of companies by now have adequate IT systems to help manage the workload. This if fairly typical, because IT really only gets called in to help whenever there is something that comes up day in day out and needs to be done every day. Not so on the ceded reinsurance side – after all, since cat. XL claims are few and far between, their computerisation keeps being pushed down the very long list of competing priorities for IT resources.

Yet the problem remains: insurance companies still need to get the claims aggregated and sent to the reinsurers, they still need to do this promptly, and they still need to do this with the minimum disruption, because the staff can’t be dealing with reinsurance when the insured need funds for urgent repairs or worse.

The question is: how can IT help with the workload for such rare occurrences, when there are umpteen other things to deliver, to change, or to fix.

More often than not, it is the small change in the right place that has a bigger effect than a whole raft of features. Especially since that small change can be put in place today, before the next cat. XL claim, and at the same time the change is small enough that it can be delivered quietly as part of a whole set of other departments’ features.

It’s the finding of those small changes that is interesting. To do it, there is no other way than to try and put ourselves in the place of the people having to deal with the situation. What needs to be done, how can it be done, and, most important: what are the most time-consuming repetitive things. That is where the gains are to be made. After that it is just a case of looking at the software available and try and figure out what changes would dramatically reduce that workload, and then whittle those changes down to their simplest expression, so that many of them can be delivered at once, and so that they can be delivered promptly.

That way the next time disaster strikes and it’s all hands on deck, people can get on with dealing with the important things, while the application helps out with the repetitive task of feeding the claims into the cat. XL treaties, ready for review when time is available.
